God has inspired some individuals to build schools that follow the principles of the gospel. Karl Maeser (a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days) has received many inspirations from heaven about how to build a school, which they later called Brigham Young Academy of Provo. Moreover, in that institution Every lesson should be taught by the spirit, all professors should be aware of the needs of the students, and they should be distressed about the finances of the school.
The first thing that the speaker addressed was that he received an inspiration from heaven that “every lesson must be taught by the spirit”. That reminds me of a verse in Alma 18:35 that says “The spirit gives knowledge”. In other words, when we include God in our academic studies the Holy Ghost will guide us to learn in the academic knowledge. Also, Brother Maeser, after the establishment of the new education system, received another inspiration, that school must be guided by a prophet. As a result of that we as students of BYU Had received many blessings to follow him. For example, many companies are looking for hiring BYU students because of their diligence in their work and faith.
Another vision for the school that Brother Maeser had is that “All teachers and authorities should be aware of the needs of those who are attending the school.” Also the scriptures say in D&C 38:23 “But verily I say unto you, teach one another according to the office wherewith I have appointed you.” This is one of the blessings that an institution inspired from God can give us. The connection between students and teachers is vital to learn because they are the ones who can help you succeed. For example, last semester I felt that I wasn’t improving as much as I wanted, and one of my professors helped me to check my essays every day. As a result of that, I have improved in my writing test.
Finally, even Brother Maeser didn’t understand how they would receive money to build an inspired school, he trusted that God would provide it. This is because as in D&C 97:11-12 says “The Lord’s house will be built by the tithing of the people.” This is because one of the visions he received was that they wouldn’t worry about the finances to afford the construction of the institution. As a result of his faith we have the blessing to have a high quality education with a reasonable price. This is because the church takes some money from the tithings to pay for most of the university bills. However, students should pay a lower price.
Knowing the revelations that Karl G. Maeser has received. The ELC students should obey the guidance that comes from heaven. As a result of that, they will receive blessings. For example, when I started to follow the honor code that allowed me to be a disciple of Jesus Christ at college as well.
In conclusion, all lessons should be taught by the spirit, be in harmony with the gospel and they should worry about the finances of the school are some of the impressions he felt from God.
