Community Outreach English: Our Mission

The Community Outreach English (CORE) program supports BYU’s Department of Linguistics by facilitating the teaching, learning, and research of English as a second language in a non-IEP context.

CORE’s mission is threefold:

  1. Provide BYU student teachers with opportunities to apply university study in practical contexts and to develop excellence in English language teaching, curriculum design, materials development, technology use, assessment, and evaluation.

  2. Provide BYU students with opportunities to acquire mentoring and administrative experiences.

  3. Provide the community with high-quality English teaching necessary to help students meet the basic demands of English use in everyday life.
